Only steps from our front door the GARDEN OF THE GODS, rich in Hollywood film history, beckons.
Many of the classic western movies were filmed right here featuring the likes of John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and many more.
Here is the view as you head up the path.
To the left is the famous NYOKA CLIFF found in many movies.
Surprise! We ran into one of our neighbors who walked up to watch the sunset. Imagine sitting up there with bats and owls flying around as the lights of L.A. twinkle below! There's a great shot of STONEY POINT right behind him.

Neighbor Tim is a pro hiker and knows all the secret spots. Here he's showing Dale a hidden rock with Manson gang carvings!!! I never knew this was up here!!!

Here we are on Hollywood's Walk of Fame to see CINDERELLA at Disney's El Capitan Theater. It's "girl's night out" and we are beyond excited!
In the lobby is the original dress worn by Lily James in the amazing ballroom scene. Simply stunning!
Upon being seated the curtains went up, just like in the old days!, the organist rose out of the floor and we were treated to live music and a Cinderella light show.
Only in Hollywood!!!
Just seeing the original glass slipper was worth the price of admission. It spun slowly in a glass case and I have never seen anything like it. Breathtaking!
Downstairs all of the costumes worn in the movie were on display, like Helena Bonham Carter's fairy godmother dress.
This movie is a "must see"!!! It was so good that I'll be going back to to see it with my husband. Perfect casting, enchanting scenery, and moving soundtrack...Go see it!

What do you do when your birthday falls between Christmas & New Years in the midst of an unusually hectic season? For us it was to take a drive through Malibu Canyon to one of our favorite restaurants, SADDLE PEAK LODGE.
Just being seated in this high ceiling-ed log cabin of a room, strewn with lights, and under a canopy of mounted deer, brings the relaxation that comes with the feeling that you are "away". Also adding to the ambiance is the gracious and expert service by well trained waiters such as David...knowledgeable, with a heartfelt passion for food and presentation, helpful and attentive yet discreet, with the manners to know not to interrupt a conversation. SO appreciated these days!
Adding to the relaxing elegance is the table decor with fresh flowers and hurricane candles.
Being a pastry nut I was overjoyed at the "goodies basket", so much so that we had eaten half of them before I remembered to snap a pic! Everything in the basket is freshly made that morning on the premises. Ours included a warm, iced cinnamon roll, amazing cheddar apple scone, pear tart, and fresh muffin. Just divine!
My grilled salmon was perfectly prepared and served on a bed of butternut squash puree along with a mini pitcher of lemon buerre blanc sauce, in the French manner.
Dale enjoyed his favorite, eggs hollandaise.
Now about the bacon. This item right here, the apple-wood smoked bacon, a $5 side order, was worth the price of admission. Honestly this was the best bacon either one of us has ever had. IN OUR LIVES. I almost considered making it my Facebook profile pic.
One of the many things we love about this restaurant are the rooms upstairs. Over the years we have dined in all of them. This is the view from the 2nd level. Just look out those windows!
We have also enjoyed this little romantic table on the 3rd level.
After your meal a walk around the grounds beckons.
Fresh air, along with canyon views, abound.
Take the path over the creek...
which will lead you to a view of the saddle peak mountains.
Back inside, at the bottom of the stairs, you will find a bushel of perfect apples in case you would like to grab one for the road.
Ahhh, Saddle Peak Lodge what a wonderful destination you are! Happy 30th Anniversary to you!

Surrounded by film studios, the Sportsmen's Lodge, on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City has quite a past. In years gone by it was a famous hangout for the old Hollywood crowd. Clark Gable, Bette Davis, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Spencer Tracy, and Katherine Hepburn, just to name a few.
Today it is a hotel with meeting rooms, dining options, and a popular film location used by shows like CSI. This day, we had the pleasure of bringing our wares from Mountain Rose GIFTS and Revelation TOPS to the Republican Women's Club and being treated to a delicious lunch.
The spacious room was ready for guests when we arrived.
Is that a serene view or what?
We had fun setting up our traveling boutique!

It was nice being ladies who lunch.
The Salmon with Dill sauce was perfection on a plate!

This year the Lord has blessed us with three beautiful weddings in which He has been the center. There is nothing that compares to the union of two young people who love the Lord and seek to do things His way.
This wedding took place in Pasadena at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
We met our friends from Lighthouse Church where we first met the bride and her family.
Dale was asked to sing"Showers of Blessing".
The wedding party...just lovely!
This bride & groom traveled in style.
So nice to be reunited with our dear friends!
You never know who or what you may see in the lobby of the Sheraton Universal.
The reception took place on the top floor with a 360 degree view of Universal City, home of the studios.
Yes, I like it here!
We enjoyed a delicious dinner followed by dessert.
Dale presiding over his first Thaali Ceremony.
Oh boy! Gourmet desserts and wedding cake too!
And now for one of my favorite parts. After the Thaali ceremony the dancing begins. I just LOVE this, the parents and children dancing together. Such fun!!!

I have always wanted a great seat to see the Rose Parade in person. It's on my "bucket list". In the meantime this brought me one step closer to my dream: an invitation to the City of Glendale's Rose Float Reception, a private party where we enjoyed live quintet music, delicious food from some of Glendale's best restaurants, and a private tour of the floats as they were being built.
The theme of the 2013 Rose Parade is "Oh The Places You'll Go" and the float pictured here will open the parade.
Past the security entrance and we're going in!!!

Does this house look familiar? To those that grew up in my generation it's the house where Wally and Beaver grew up in "Leave It To Beaver". For those that are fans of the recent show "Desperate Housewives" it was part of the neighborhood on Wisteria Lane.
We never watched D.H. but enjoyed our tour of the homes of Wisteria Lane while visiting the lot at Universal Studios. It was especially fun taking the tour while they were filming. Here are the rest of the homes on the street....
This is also the "Harvey" house where Jimmy Stewart starred in the movie by the same name.
It looks like the "perfect neighborhood" doesn't it?
P.S. We had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Matthers, "Beaver", several years ago. We ran into him at Disneyland and had a nice conversation. Also ran into "Wally" on Ventura Blvd.

The STAPLE'S CENTER, in the heart of downtown L.A. is home to the L.A. Kings games.
We had the pleasure of being treated to this game and enjoying a private box with our friends. What a view!
Our box had 2 rows of cushy "movie" seating, a table with stools where you could eat and watch the game, and a living room area. What a treat!
Upon entering we were greeted with an array of food...cookies & brownies...
Chips, veggies, and dips....
Buffalo wings & potstickers...
And my fave, a good 'ole dog with all the fixins.
It was exciting as loud dance music filled the house when the teams came out to skate for us.
It was a fast moving game and we enjoyed the theatrics and music. It was especially fun when the Kings would make a goal and everyone got up and danced. What a good time we had!
