Sharing the Lord's blessings in the areas He has given me to enjoy: Women's Ministry, etiquette, life in L.A., retail and fashion, home decor, enjoying the seasons, food presentation, travel, writing, and skincare. Hope this blog is a blessing to you!
Once a year every August we stay late in Montrose to watch a movie under the stars. We met at our store Revelation TOPS which is all ready for Fall, Cali style. That means a new transitional color palette in lightweight fabrics because it can be rather warm here.
Check out this quick video which captures our custom Pizza from Giuseppe's, our walk around the town, classic cars, favorite scenes from Ratatouille, and the Montrose Shopping Park lit up at night.
It was fun " ladies who lunch" kind of day! Our store Revelation TOPS was invited to do a fashion show at the Pasadena Women's City Club!
Dale joined me with goodies from our other store Mountain Rose Gifts and we arrived at this historic club in Pasadena, of Rose Bowl fame.
The grounds here are peaceful and well manicured.
We were privileged to join this friendly group for luncheon.
Be still my heart! Lunch was accompanied by popovers!
This was our garden view.
And then these happy Carrot Cakes for dessert! Yes it was the "cherry on the cake"!
After lunch it was fashion show time. Do I look like I am wearing the podium or what? The fun part was with this microphone I got to move around and talk.
The piano music started and it was time for the show!
As the models came out we shared this year's Fashion trends. Open shoulders and bell sleeves are extremely popular right now.
Following the fashion show was a very moving speaker who shared her testimony of how she came to know the Lord and what He has done in her life. I wish I would've taken a picture but I was intent on listening to her every word.
Thank you Stonecroft Ministries for a refreshing and memorable afternoon!
It pays to sign up for emails from The Village, the new gourmet shopping center down the street. It's how I found out about their new Summer event "LET'S COOK" with demos and tastings. Last night we checked in with our free tickets and found a great seat at one of the cute cafe tables. Boy were we in for a treat!
Chef Logan from LARSEN'S STEAKHOUSE was there to share his wisdom on how to grill the perfect steak. Larsen's is a privately owned SoCal chain that specializes in state of the art, premium steaks. CLICK HERE to see the extent they go to for steak perfection. I also enjoyed learning from this nice gentleman on the right who teaches cooking classes at SUR LA TABLE.
I have never seen a steak like this in my life! And I am a bonafide foodie. It's a Tomahawk Steak and it's HUGE! Around 35 ounces, perfectly marbled, and with a l-o-n-g bone. I know the chef gave great details but I was so blown away by the impressive size my mind went blank. I do remember that it's brought to room temperature before grilling and simply seasoned with Montreal steak seasoning. Oh the wonderful smell! I did have the presence of mind to film a quick video so you can get some tips.
While the steak was cooking we learned how to make Chimichurri Sauce with ingredients like these. Also a savory Blue Cheese Polenta.
Look at that steak now!
As the demo progressed we were served a petite wine pairing of Clos D'Angel Cellar Cabernet courtesy of TOTAL WINE. They also treated us to a set of complimentary boxed wine glasses. So nice!
It's time to take that bad boy off the grill. I think everyone's mouth was watering!
I was spellbound as Chef Logan carefully and expertly carved and arranged the meat.
Meanwhile the same dish was prepared back at the restaurant and served to us. Oh happy day!
We even were given recipes to take home. I am definitely going to try the polenta!
Great job dynamic duo! Charles (left) General Manager of Larsen's and Chef Logan are brothers! I really appreciate that as I also work with my sister.
Visit them at the new and perfectly appointed Larsen's Topanga.
Thank you Westfield Topanga/ The Village! I look forward to attending the next event! And that steak.....!!!
This was the scene as we "set up shop" at the Encino Oaks Republican Women's luncheon held at the famous Sportsmen's Lodge this week. Our stores REVELATION TOPS and MOUNTAIN ROSE GIFTS were honored to be invited to do the boutique and Fashion Show.
My sister and I enjoy doing these kinds of events. This day we were happy to wear our latest bling tops and best selling sleeves.
My nice hubby Dale had a great time doing what he loves. What a help he was including being our photographer for the fashion show.
The tables were decorated in a festive, patriotic theme. Pssstt...check out who the speaker is for the September meeting! Yep! Dennis Prager!
What a spectacular view we enjoyed! This is the sight of many movies, TV shows, and special occasions. LOTS of Hollywood history here.
Prior to lunch we were treated to the amazing voice of Jan Lacey Chorley. She sang a variety of Patriotic songs that honored the Lord and made us thankful for the country in which we live. Just beautiful and so peaceful. I was transported by her gift of song.
And now for one of my favorite things of the day. LUNCH! Every meal I have had here has been delicious! The service is top notch too. Today we enjoyed Grilled Shrimp Salad...
and Vegetarian Pasta. Both were yummy. I could make a meal of their warm, crusty rolls and assortment of decorated butters.
What a perfect dessert!
Well ladies it's show time!
FUN! FUN! FUN! Did we have FUN! This model was such a good sport! She had us cracking up when I asked her to bark into the mic and SHE DID IT! With gusto!
Revelation TOPS specializes in tops for the season. Right now we are ready for the 4th of July and the election year with the latest red, white, and blue tops. This open shoulder shark-bite tunic with bling is a best seller for us. The black lab dog pillow is a fave at Mountain Rose.
What a beauty! You'll want to live in these pull on,4 way stretch denim capris with crystal ladder trim.
Uncle Sam wants more of this top! It sold out in blue but just arrived in mauve.
WOW! She makes our flag dress look good! Everyone should have our made in the USA $19.98 leggings and bandeau sleeves to give your tank dresses and tunics a trendy look.
Tie Dye is so in and so are the exaggerated sides on this top, They are worn with our #! pant called JEGGINGS. Phenomenal fit, made in the USA, lightweight, size 2-16, denim, black, and colors, and only $59.98 Slim legs are IN!
This gal runs the largest conservative network for millennials on the West Coast! She is rocking our drama tank and "one of a kind" Paris jeans. Being so close to Hollywood we get lots of studio execs, rockers wives, and women in the "biz".
Does this outfit look great or what? This is the look! Tunic over leggings with BLING! So comfy too! It's so exciting to see what happens to women when they step out and try something NEW!
What a happy Summer dress taken to the next level with our black bandeau sleeves. A must have in sizes S-2X.
A fitting finale to our show, a made in Italy 2 pc. top set with white ankle pants that have crystal bows on the back!
Oh what a nice day supporting the Republican party, having lunch, listening to beautiful music, seeing the latest fashions, meeting new friends, and shopping! Could it get any better?
Yes! There were raffles and fab prizes like this money tree!!!
Carole was thrilled to win our table centerpiece!
Thank you Lord for a wonderful time and opportunity! We all felt like Queen for the day!
This is the sight of the first ever KIDS & MOMS FASHION SHOW right in the heart of Montrose!
The vision for the show was born in our MSPA Marketing Committee by my friend and next door neighbor GiGi Garcia who owns the popular kids boutique IT TAKES A VILLAGE. As soon as she shared her idea I was quick to jump on it. I love fashion shows! And here we are today, our dream becoming a reality.
This adorable salon, BUBBLE CUTS, also in our block, did a phenomenal job of styling all the kids hair. Kids love it here! They can watch TV and be entertained while getting their new do. Owner Carlos, (right), even had donuts! O happy day!
We had some time before our stores opened and the show so we hit the Sunday Montrose Harvest Market. Here my sister Carole is wearing her new Revelation TOP with colorful lace and a flutter sleeve.
Check out these gourmet veggies sold right in front of our store! I've never seen cauliflower like that!
There was so much going on in town this day including a strolling mariachi trio, pet parade, and taste of Montrose!
It's fashion show time and the models are getting assembled in the tent.
I am loving being the emcee on a beautiful SoCal day in the town I love, with people I love, talking fashion, enjoying the kids, and making new friends. Thank you Lord!
Let the show begin! I hope video surfaces of this adorable actress, you can see her on the TV show "Transparent", who danced to the music up and down the runway. Everyone loved it! My sister took this pic and was struck by the little boy in the background. She sure got his attention! LOL!
Here is the beautiful and talented owner of VILLAGE BOUTIQUE & BOARDSHOP with her adorable daughter.
These girls are best friends and are often seen in town. I call them M&M. M (left) whose Mom owns IT TAKES A VILLAGE, has already been on magazine covers and in national commercials and M (Right) family owns MONTROSE CANDY CO., also in our block.
Courtney, a local high school principal, is modeling a fave outfit from REVELATION TOPS. The open shoulder tunic is light as a feather and made in the USA. The 4 way stretch capris have an amazing pull on fit and are adorned with crystal bows at the calves. Looks like she has a handful with son Armen! LOL!
The show must go on and there's always something going on behind the scenes. God Bless my husband Dale who is in charge of events & business manager for the Montrose Shopping Park. We had unexpected mic problems and he discovered a loose wire that was the culprit. It caused me to have to move away from the runway, hold the mic a certain way without moving, and all while he held the wire in place, on his knees, the entire show! But we did it!!! This guy deserves a medal!
The icing on the cake was being interviewed and filmed by our wonderful social media team CONCISE FOCUS. Husband and wife owners Valerie and Mitchell are extremely talented! You can see their work on our MSPA Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages. I can't wait to see how they captured today's events!
Thanks for reading and special thanks for shopping the many one of a kind boutiques in Montrose!
It only happens once a year. The BOYSENBERRY FESTIVAL at Knott's Berry Farm, a popular theme park about an hour and a half south of us. Abundant bougainvillea and blue skies are part of the welcoming path this day.
Boysenberries and Knotts go way back to 1932 when Walter Knott began propagating the new plant, a curious cross between the red raspberry, blackberry and loganberry.
The festival was decorated with berries and purple was the color of the day!
Of course I had to comply wearing every boysenberry thing I had!
Today was all about the berries and this "foodie" gal was in heaven. How about these Boysenberry meatballs! A skewer for each of us!
This perfect Boysenberry ice cream cone was so refreshing!
Be still my heart! Boysenberry candles that look like pies and cupcakes!!!
Check out these tempting displays!
Knott's has an old Western cowboy theme, one of the highlights being the show in the Calico Saloon.
This is founder Cordelia Knott's original fireplace.
The Calico Mine ride is about our speed these days.
Fried chicken is a MUST when you visit Knott's. They serve theirs with homemade biscuits and boysenberry jam. We washed it all down with boysenberry punch.
Oh how pretty! I wanted one but practiced self control...
At least until I saw this! We shared it and had boysenberry coffee.
What a beautiful So Cal sunset. Even the sky got in on the boysenberry act.
We capped off the evening with a visit to Camp Snoopy. The end of a fun filled boysenberry day.
Last night my dear friend Sylvia invited me to go with her to the first performance of the 25th Annual Passion Play at Shepherd's Church. Here we are enjoying a coffee and cookie fellowship in the church lobby, which is only 5 minutes from home. Little did I know at the time the tremendous blessing awaiting us.
My mind is full of superlatives as I seek to describe how BLOWN AWAY I was by the entire production. The set, the acting, the drama, and most of all the moving musical score all combined together to honor the Lord by telling the greatest story ever told. I don't want to give too much away but feel compelled to share just a few of my favorite things. Trust me. There were many. On the outside I was still, spellbound, and trying to look composed. On the inside my jaw was hanging open and I was moved to tears.
I can not say enough about the musical score composed by Jasper Randall of "Frozen", "Avatar", and "Ironman" fame. I wish there was a way to get the soundtrack because I want to hear those incredible voices again and again. I don't know who the gentleman was that sang the part of Pontius Pilate but his voice is perfection. Peter, Joseph, and Nicodemus were spot on too. And then for the ladies. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! There was a group/solo rendition of "Mary Did You Know?" the likes of which I have never heard in my life! I think it's the best version of this song I have EVER heard and I've heard lots of them.
I don't know how they did it but the simulated earthquake was very realistic. I enjoyed this play so much that I want to get the word out to my friends. GO SEE IT!!! I'm thinking about going back. I liked it that much and I want my husband to see it. CLICK HERE for times and ticket info. God Bless you Passion Play cast and crew! May blind eyes be open to see and deaf ears to hear! THANK YOU!
